Nations - Africa November 2007
UGANDA / KENYA – November, 2007
It was with much excitement and anticipation that we returned to Uganda. We ministered extensively there in 2005. We arrived in the morning and were met at the Entebbe airport by Pastor David Byangu of Seeta. It was a cloudy day and for that we were glad, especially after the long plane trip.
As we drove through Kampala, I couldn’t help but notice the hustle and bustle of activity and the new buildings and shops compared to what I remember from 2005. It is impressive to see what is going on there.
Our first ministry stop, on this trip, was Mbale, Uganda. In Mbale, we ministered at a very large church of around 3,000 people. We were warmly received by this congregation. On this trip, my wife Connie and my youngest son Nathan accompanied me for the first time in Africa. Also, Randy and Cindy Adolfo were with us. And, we were very happy to have Laura Clint with us from Colorado.
Each of us had many opportunities to minister. We shared in the responsibilities of preaching many sermons, teaching and ministering in song. My son Nathan brought his guitar to Africa!
From Seeta we traveled back to Iganga and ministered at a church there. I was told that I was the first white man to ever set foot in this particular church. This is exciting when one thinks about the impact of such a moment. It also bears with it a tremendous responsibility.
When we finished our ministry in Iganga, we traveled back to Seeta and ministered at the church of Pastor David Byangu. Pastor David has been to the USA and has stayed at my home in Oregon and preached at my church.
The next phase of our journey found us traveling to Mbale, Kenya where we ministered at the church of Pastor Hudson Isabwa. We had a wonderful time there and preached many sermons. We also held a three evening crusade in Mbale.
From Mbale, Kenya, we traveled down to Nairobi. In Nairobi, we ministered at the churches of Pastor Jeremiah and Pam Odour and Apostle Elisha Muliri. It was especially difficult to visit with Apostle Elisha Muliri because this was the first time for us to be in Kenya since the death of his wife Angela who died in an auto accident in late 2007. As you can see by our previous post on this website, we ministered with Apostle Elisha and Angela just last March in Babadogo.
We also ministered at the church of Bishop Mickey Okeyo. And, we ministered for the first time in Kibera. Many say this is the world’s largest slum which is home to an estimated population of upwards to 1,000,000 people.
There is so much I could say at this point about Kenya. But, I am not a politician. I am a minister of the gospel. I know of much that is going on in Kenya and have some degree of understanding about why things are happening but this is not the place to give my analysis. Suffice to say, Kenya needs our prayers. We know of churches and ministers that are being directly affected by what is going on there. Please pray for Kenya. Mungu abariki Kenya. Kuna tumaini Kenya.
